Yes, $5,000 checks for all sounds tempting, but the idea is riddled with problems — most pressingly, inflation risks. But then, maybe that's what they want.
Trudeau did something similar recently in Canada. He refrained from collecting the provincial sales tax for a few weeks. That's one of the things that prompted C. Freeland, deputy PM. to resign and put the blame on Trudeau for the collapsing economy. Trudeau wanted her to put out the worst budget ever, but sweeten it up with a nice freebee. Days later Trudeau promised to resign too, but not before he prorogued ( suspended) the government, probably to help his liberal party and friends. Besides the fact that the government is dysfunctional and drowning in debt, the upcoming election has to wait until the liberals decide to install another globalist like Mark Carney, who is up in the polls paradoxically.
The tax break was a ploy to buy favor that failed and backfired on Trudeau. It was a bad response that led to more debt, resignations, and a halt on government function. The ship is now sinking a little faster as Trump declares tariffs and suggests Canada be the 51st state, but I don't think Canadians want Trump's solution. It seems to have spurred a weird kind of patriotism which is being used to distract the public from the incredible waste and incompetence of the ruling class.
Great post otherwise. My thought: the $5k—or whatever—is supposed to go to taxpayers. This taxpayer would not use the money to go buy new stuff, but to pay down the debt incurred for simply surviving thru the disastrous O’Bidens’ economies. That isn’t what sellers of stuff would want, but it is what consumers need most.
Personally, I would be happy just to not have to pay any Federal or state tax this April, especially since I live in a Godless Marxist state where they use MY money for all manner of evil. Lord, have mercy!
I think it would be a brilliant move. Let the people have some immediate relief from the Congressional overspending they have been suffering through. The President really can't just spend it otherwise. It is a good PR move to let the spending cuts have direct dividends to combat the narrative that any spending cuts will "starve the children" and such.
It could also be coupled with a campaign of incentivizing the people get their own personal finances in order as well. Explain that it could be used to start a fund for home buying, start a business, start a retirement fund, or get out of debt. Not to mention being able to get by better with the increased food prices.
Hmmm... Remember the last round of "stimulus" in the form of Covid19 relief payments? That's part of the inflation we're feeling now, coupled with ongoing destructive government policies, like culling cattle and chickens in the name of "Bird Flu" prevention. $10 eggs, anyone?
Last time around, few if any paid down debt. Most gambled on Bitcoin, or bought new big screen TVs, or blew their checks on OnlyFans, among other destructive vices. The entire fiat-debt-money printing debacle is about keeping debt and consumerism going, so if the government isn't using the money -- as it should -- to pay down our collective national debt which sits at desperate levels, why would it bother to incentive its populace to do that? Seems antithetical to the endgame which is the destruction of our current monetary system for something much more controlled. I think the CL article alludes to that.
All of what we're seeing is smoke and mirrors, like so much that happens in Washington DC. Most will not see through the fog, unfortunately. Sure, $5000 now. Slavery later.
Well, the problem is that the President can't say that the money will go for the national debt. If the government is going to pay off the voters, better to pay it out equally than send it to people who made bad decisions and racked up huge amounts of student loan debt, bail out companies that have mismanaged their way into insolvency, or to let it churn in the DC grift mixer.
Returning it to the people it was extracted from seems to be the least damaging way of handling it.
I’m not sure I would consider $5,000 enough to create a nationwide shopping frenzy but I am ALWAYS wary of accepting money in any amount from the government. Every “gift” comes with strings attached.
This is nothing but a diversion and a scam. Don’t fall for it.https://toddbr549.substack.com/p/tump-and-musks-bait-and-switch

“Co-President”??
Funny. Ha. Ha.
Does a CEO create a Co-Chairman when he/she designates a corporate Vice Chair to speak authoritatively in certain matters? Of course not.
Please drop the inflammatory and highly inaccurate snark.
Now I can get on to reading the rest of your post.
I've never seen a Co-Chairman or Corporate VP require his child as "an emotional support human." His words, not mine.
I thought it was funny.
World needs a little snarky humor

I think its a great idea.
It should double my Hookers and Blow supply business for a short while!

Price inflation is necessary to stave off credit contraction spirals. Why crypto, voluntary marketplaces ♥️☀️☮️🌈🏁
