Join Collapse Life this Thursday for a livestream panel discussion on digital detoxing, the impact of nonstop news, and how to regain control of your mental well-being.
Doomscrolling is a new word to me that brings to mind the constant negative news projected by most media. But don't we want to know relevant information even though it's disturbing? How can we tell if it's hype or real is another question that should be answered if we want to move forward. Fear, I'm afraid, is being used as a weapon because it reduces critical thinking and makes it easier to manipulate and control people.
I dont think we need to know everything and it is hard to tell what's real online.
It is easier to tell when we interact in the real world where we can use all our senses.
I would also say if you know something you dont have to continue to looking it up and go over it and over it. No need to pick at a wound.
Maybe come at it from another direction- if you know something is wrong or unsettling instead of researching that issue over and over. you could research ways to fortify yourself so it has less effects on you. You could spend more time in the "corporeal world" to assess whether that issue is indeed real.
Nothing brings people together like a common enemy or threat.... you can go make friends in the physical world who also see this issue and work together.
I look forward to joining this discussion on an issue of great import - culturally, socially, psychologically, spiritually ,etc.
Tech needs an immediate reassessment by Humanity at large, as something is being lost in the sea of information technologies: what it means to be Human.
Doomscrolling but there is also recreational diagnosing, recreational outrage, recreational snooping, recreational comparing.
There is a lot to discuss here- I'm thanful for the opportunity. I hope you can all join in.
